The Burnt Cubes
The "Burnt Cube", was made from a single piece of an Ash felled at a local primary school. The cube was cut so that its internal dimensions were fractionally larger than the amplifier it was to house - in a stylish yet unobtrusive manner in a room otherwise devoid of electronic equipment.
The external surfaces were cut and finished bar its final treatment, before the internal surface was burnt - using the oak lathes taken from a friends house during renovation, as fuel for the fire. Once the internal surface was suitably scorched, the loose carbon was removed to leave a stable dust free surface, and the outside was finished and oiled. The remnants of bark, and quarter cut graining adding to the beauty of the piece.
The photos show part of the burning process, and the finished piece with amplifier wired in and in place.
