Pollarding

Here repollarding old Willows at Magor Marsh for the Gwent Wildlife Trust.

The willows had not been pollarded for many years, and had started to break apart - the pollarding will allow the tree to regernerate, and will probably live longer than if they had been left. Here the willows line the renes of the nature reserve, providing valuable habitat for wildlife, unique to this type of environment.
