Node Vase
When a tree looses a branch, a concentration of healing cells around the collar (the point at which the branch leaves the main stem of the tree), activate to prevent infection, just as our bodies do.
These vases were made from a fallen Beech, gifted to me by a local farmer. The form of the vases was suggested by the wound, or the limb from which it was cut. These were then force cracked (by placing on top of the woodburner at home), and finished with Danish oil.
1. The staining was achieved using water stained by iron contaminated Oak (which turns an Iodine Blue).
2. This vase was finished using a dark blue wax to fill the cracks
